Short Bio
Marina Abramović, born November 30, 1946, in Belgrade, Serbia (then part of Yugoslavia), is a pioneering performance artist known for her extensive work in using her own body as a subject, object, and medium of her art. Abramović's art explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind.
Her performances often involve risk, pain, and exhaustion, pushing both herself and her audience to confront physical and mental boundaries. Notable works include "Rhythm 0" (1974), where she invited the audience to use any of 72 objects on her body in any way they desired, and "The Artist Is Present" (2010), a 736-hour and 30-minute static, silent piece, during which she sat immobile in the museum's atrium while spectators were invited to take turns sitting opposite her.
