Sidney Poitier was a Bahamian-American actor, director, and diplomat born on February 20, 1927, in Miami, Florida, and passed away on January 6, 2022. He made history in 1964 as the first Black actor and the first Bahamian to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.
With a career spanning from 1946 to 2009, Poitier received numerous awards, including Golden Globe Awards, a BAFTA Award, and a Grammy Award. He was also recognized with two Emmy nominations and a Tony Award nomination.
